A Discouragement to Would-be Commenters

I was doing some study on wise speech in Proverbs yesterday, and I came across this verse.

"If one gives an answer before he hears,
it is his folly and shame"
(Prov 18:13).

I must admit, I thought immediately of many threads of blog discussion in which I have been involved. The more study I did, the more I wonder how compatible blogging is with the way of wisdom outlined in the book of Proverbs.

Um...am I allowed to comment on this thread? :-)

How about Proverbs 15:28? "The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer, But the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things." Proverbs 16:23 is more of the same. Ouch.

I didn't mean to say that nobody was allowed to comment, or they would be a fool if they did. I received this appropriate comment via email:

"It is an opportunity not to sin also.

But I agree. It leads to arguments in which you don't really know the people, and this is not the ideal way to have arguments. Blogs are more about un-conversation in the comments. Not exactly the way of wisdom."
