Some people promise things that they simply cannot fulfill. They would like to; they would do so if they could; however, they cannot perform the obligation which they have promised. In Isaiah 40:1-11, God promised to comfort his people. He is always faithful to his word and he is absolutely able to fulfill what he has promised.
In Isaiah 40:12-31 we learn that God will do what he has promised because he is omnipotent. This lesson is given in three cycles that can be divided up into the following two parts:
In Isaiah 40:12-31 we learn that God will do what he has promised because he is omnipotent. This lesson is given in three cycles that can be divided up into the following two parts:
- God is the all-powerful Sovereign of the universe (vv. 12-17, 21-24, 27-28). God is greater, bigger, more powerful, wiser, and far beyond any person in this world.
- Therefore, nothing can compare to God (vv. 18-20, 25-26, 29-31). Idols are worthless; powerful nations are insignificant before God. God is in a class all by himself.
God is able to do what he has promised. We must trust him and wait on him for his timing (v.31). When we worry, fear, become greedy or impatient, or plan without thinking of God, what does this say about our God?
