Did God Actually Say?

This morning, Pastor was preaching from Genesis 3:1-7 about the deception and disobedience of Adam and Eve. The snake's question to Eve, "Did God actually say?" is the lie of the ages. It is the same lie Satan is trying to foist on people everywhere today. It is the lie that you know better than God. It is the temptation of self-autonomy.

Anytime we disobey God's Word, we are believing the lie that we know better than God. We think we can fix our own problems. We believe we are the sovereigns of our own lives. The damage we can do is beyond imagination.

This lie takes many different forms and can be worded many ways.

  • "One time won't hurt."
  • "I am the exception to the rule--- I won't get caught."
  • "I know what the Bible says, but. . . ."
  • "That just won't work for me."
  • "You don't know my situation."
  • "Don't worry, this will all work out okay."
  • "This is the only way to fix the problem."
  • "I can fix this."

"There is a way that seems right to a man,
but its end is the way to death
"
(Prov 14:12 ESV).
